As you know, COVID-19 has left us in unprecedented times! At this time, and until further notice, our office is shut down and all appointments are suspended by order of the Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry.
If you are experiencing an emergency, please call Dr. Schmidt at 604-818-7530 or Dr. Yen at 604-263-5345 so that we may assess your needs. Some emergencies can be handled over the phone with or without prescription of drugs. Unfortunately, we are not allowed to see you in our office as there is a severe shortage of fitted appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment). All emergencies are being referred to a handful of clinics who have the appropriate equipment and only the most urgent cases will be seen. More information of what is allowed and where these services are may be seen on the BC Dental Association website at bcdental.org. Unfortunately, there may be some instances of long-term dental consequences but these are the current times! I have clipped a portion of the most recent BC Dental Association health directive. This is as follows:
To provide emergency dental treatment safely, dentists and their staff must also have the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) which includes specially fitted masks, face shields, gowns and gloves.
Due to the widespread shortage of PPE, patients with dental pain, swelling, infection or trauma must first be assessed by their local General Practice dentist over the phone. To reduce the risk of transmission, only the most urgent dental cases will be referred to an appropriately equipped dental clinic for treatment. The BCDA and our members recognize that this is definitely not an optimal situation for patients, and look forward to resuming regular care protocols as soon as possible.
If you have a scheduled appointment, as many of you do, these will be suspended until we are able to get back to work. At that time, we will assess the situation and the best way to get back on track.
Keep well and hoping to see you soon,
Ernie, Anne and the gang (Deb, Eileen, Pauline, Jackie, Eli and Cathy)
