Dr. Collin Shuen

Prosthodontist

Dr. Collin Shuen is a board-certified specialist in Prosthodontics. After graduating from dental school, Dr. Shuen distinguished himself by completing a three-year residency in Prosthodontics at the University of Connecticut. He holds Board Certification from both the Royal College of Dentists of Canada and the American Board of Prosthodontics.  Dr. Shuen brings over 7 years of experience to Pacific Spirit Dental Centre and has grown up around dentistry his entire life. The son of two dentists, his own family is celebrating 40 years of dental practice in Vancouver.  Dr. Shuen’s dedication, energy, and training make him the ideal person to safeguard your dental health for years to come.

Whilst off-duty, Dr. Shuen enjoys indulging in food and exploring how cuisine is woven into cultures around the world. He shares Dr. Schmidt’s love of photography and the outdoors and counts himself fortunate to live in the beautiful lower mainland of BC.

Dr. Ernst J Schmidt

Dentist

1981 Gold Medal Graduate from the UBC Faculty of Dentistry.  Dr. Schmidt has been in private practice since graduation and has also contributed as a sessional lecturer at the UBC Faculty of Dentistry from 1982 to 1990. In 2004, Dr. Schmidt founded Pacific Spirit Dental Centre to continue his professional development. 

Dr. Schmidt has been a contributor to dental education and has implemented cutting-edge technologies making Pacific Spirit Dental one of the most advanced clinics anywhere.  In addition to maintaining a high degree of continuing dental education, Dr. Schmidt has lectured frequently on CAD/CAM technologies as well as Patient Navigation in Canada, the US, Australia, and Asia. In 2004, Dr. Schmidt was awarded the College of Dental Surgeons of BC Order of Merit. 

Although professional development is a large part of his life, Dr. Schmidt finds balance through his family and enjoys fly fishing, travel, hiking, photography, and other outdoor pursuits.

Jackie brings over 20 years of experience in dental hygiene to the team at Pacific Spirit Dental Centre. She has a passion for dentistry and ensuring that her patients are well cared for.

Over her career, she has had the privilege of working alongside some of the most distinguished specialists in Vancouver. Dr. Donald K. Shuen is a distinguished dental professional with an impressive 40 years of experience in the field. A proud graduate of the University of British Columbia (UBC) Dentistry program, Dr. Shuen has contributed to the oral health and well-being of countless individuals.

Dr. Shuen’s expertise spans across all areas of dental surgery, with a special interest in complex procedures such as wisdom teeth extractions, dental implants, and periodontal surgeries. His vast experience allows her to approach each case with a wealth of knowledge and a keen understanding of the unique needs of his patients.

Beyond his clinical practice, Dr. Shuen is known for his continuous pursuit of excellence. He stays at the forefront of dental advancements, integrating the latest technologies and techniques into his practice.

Dr. Joyce C. Ling

With a remarkable 40-year career in dentistry, Dr. Joyce Ling is a distinguished dentist known for her expertise, dedication to education, and commitment to her community. A proud graduate of the University of British Columbia (UBC) Dentistry program, Dr. Ling has not only excelled in her clinical practice but has also made significant contributions to dental education and community service.

In addition to her clinical achievements, Dr. Ling has been a dedicated educator. She has served as a mentor and instructor for over 25 years, imparting her knowledge and skills to the next generation of dental professionals.

Dr. Ling’s passion for volunteerism and fundraising has been a cornerstone of her career. Driven by a sense of social responsibility, she actively participates in fundraising efforts for senior care and charitable organizations.

A trailblazer in her field, Dr. Ling is not just a seasoned dentist; she is a compassionate educator and a tireless advocate for improving oral health on both individual and community levels.

Dr. Anna Preis

Dentist

Dr. Preis earned her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the University of Manitoba. This foundational education laid the groundwork for a career marked by a commitment to excellence and continuous learning.

Seeking to enhance her expertise, Dr. Preis furthered her education at the UBC Faculty of Dentistry, specializing in prosthodontics, endodontics, oral surgery, and sedation dentistry. Her dedication to advancing dental knowledge and skills didn’t stop there—Dr. Preis remained closely connected to the UBC Faculty of Dentistry, as a clinical educator and student group advisor.

With over two decades of experience as a dentist, Dr. Preis’ professional journey has been intertwined with a profound commitment to humanitarian efforts. She has actively participated in dental mission trips to Nicaragua, Honduras, and Peru, bringing dental care to underserved communities in need. Locally, Dr. Preis has generously donated her time and skills to provide dental care to the residents of Vancouver East Side, showcasing her dedication to making quality dental care accessible to all.

Dr. Lucie Z. X. Yin

Prosthodontist

Dr. Yin received her Doctorate of Dental Medicine (DMD) from McGill University, where she graduated with Distinction in recognition of high academic excellence. She subsequently obtained her Prosthodontics Certificate and Master of Science in Oral Biology degree at the University of Pennsylvania, upon completion of her 3-year postdoctoral Advanced Specialty Education Program.
Dr. Yin is a board-certified specialist in Prosthodontics as well as a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada.
Dr. Yin has taught as a clinical assistant professor at Penn Dental Medicine and currently enjoys serving patients in private practice and at the BC Cancer Agency. She is fluent in English, Mandarin and French. Applying her skills and knowledge to provide personalized, quality care while developing trusting relationships is the most gratifying part of her clinical experience. Her expertise includes the aesthetic and functional restoration of teeth using dental implants, as well as prostheses such as crowns, bridges, veneers, and full-arch implant therapy.

Dr. Simona Culham

Dentist

Dr. Simona Culham received her dental degree in Bucharest, Romania. After practicing there for 7 years, she upgraded and extended her studies at the University of Toronto, where she graduated with honours in 2006. This was a highly competitive program that accepted only 25 international dentists from a field of over 600 applicants. 

With more than 18 years of clinical experience, she is continually adding more skills to her professional armamentarium by attending courses and bringing modern technology into her practice. Her friendly, compassionate, and gentle style make her patients feel very comfortable and confident in her treatment, care, skill, and judgement.

Aside from her professional life, she is also dedicated to her family – a husband and 2 young sons -who are keeping her busy and involved in her community life. Her family makes sure that she plays as hard as she works. They enjoy the never-ending outdoor recreational opportunities, as well as the numerous cultural and family-oriented events, that Vancouver has to offer.
