Frequently Asked Questions

If you have questions about general dentistry, we hope to provide answers. Browse our FAQ section, and don’t hesitate to reach out to our team.

Maintaining healthy teeth and gums is a regular commitment. We generally recommend visiting a dentist for maintenance every 3 to 6 months for a check-up and cleaning. We recommend this time period because it has been shown that this is approximately how long it takes for dental problems to arise and potentially worsen. Depending on your specific needs, the suggested time between visits may be shorter or longer.

We kindly ask that you prepare by noting any updates and changes that you may have regarding your medical history, allergies, or medications. It is also helpful to familiarize yourself with the names and quantities of any medications that you are taking regularly. This information is important to us to ensure that your dental care is delivered safely.

Please also bring any appliances, retainers, and bite guards that may be relevant to the dentist when evaluating your mouth. If you have any recent x-ray or dental CT imaging within the past year, please contact your previous dental clinic such that they may be made available to us.

The first time we meet you, the dentist will perform a new patient consultation to determine a baseline for your oral and overall health. This will consist of:

• Medical history
• Extraoral examination (head, neck, joints)
• Intraoral examination (teeth, gums, soft tissues, bite analysis)
• Oral cancer screening
• Periodontal measurements
• Digital 3D-scanned study model
• X-ray imaging as needed
• Initial treatment recommendations
A full new patient examination requires about 1 hour to complete. All records are permanently entered into our digital records system, and the information is always yours to keep. No strings attached.

We understand the importance of dental insurance in helping our patients access the care they need. That’s why we accept all dental insurances and have a dedicated team who are experts in assisting you to prepare and submit insurance claims, as well as maximize the use of your insurance benefits.

While we submit claims and receive payment directly from your insurance provider, there may be certain procedures that require payment in full. We’re here to help you navigate your insurance coverage and answer any questions you may have about your particular plan.

Severe anxiety rooted in previous bad experiences is far too common a barrier to timely and effective dental care. Our practice is committed to providing a calm, stress-free approach to dental care. If deemed appropriate, your dentist may recommend medications to reduce anxiety during appointments

At this time, we do not offer Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas) or Intravenous (IV) sedation services. Should it be absolutely necessary, we may refer you to specialists who are medically proficient at this level of sedation.

If you are experiencing acute dental pain during non-business hours, please contact our office at (604) 224-2411 (University Village) or (604) 738-1131 (W. Broadway) for our current emergency on-call phone number. A dentist on our team is always on-call.

Our entire practice philosophy is to prevent unexpected emergencies from happening in the first place. In the event of a chipped or broken tooth or a restoration that has come loose, our dedicated team will always be prepared to help during clinic hours.
